Floristry more than just flowers. A service industry; a short article looking at marketing your business and..........
Wedding Flowers Service
I attended a wedding in country Victoria earlier this month. The couple opted to have minimal wedding flowers. The couple were happy with their wedding flowers but there were some difficulties attaching buttonholes to the groomsmen.
I was around at the groom’s house before the wedding when the florist arrived. A friend’s partner answered the door and the florist passed her the buttonholes. And with that the florist (Or delivery driver was off)
There were potentially three future clients in that room. The florist made no marketing effort. Growing up in floristry I have visited hundreds of groom’s houses before weddings. My father would always reassure the groom with some light but useful conversation.
“Hi I am the florist, from “Business Name”. I have just visited the bride’s house and everything is going well and on time. (A little reassurance) “They are very happy with their wedding flowers. Now we have three buttonholes does anybody know how these are attached to the lapel?” (If the wedding is only a short time away the florist can put all of them on.) However, if the wedding is still not for a few hours,
“I will just show you how to put these on. The best man can be in charge of putting the buttonholes on straight."
Then leave your card with the flowers and tell the best man not to leave the box of flowers in the sun.
This extra five minutes can be classified as an advertising expense. Don’t forget that floristry is not just about physical flowers but a service industry as well. The florist from country Victoria did not do the wrong things; she just did not give herself the best opportunity for future business.
Any thoughts?
