Australian Florists and Allied Trades Association Competition.
The AFA invite you to enter our competition for Junior, Intermediate and the open sections of our competition. We hope that you find our competition motivating, inspirational and a great way to broaden your experiences in the Floristry Industry. The details of the competition are as follows:
DATE: Wednesday 29th October 2008
VENUE: Marjorie Milner College
401 Canterbury Road
Surrey Hills
TIME: venue will be open at 5.00pm to set up.
COMPETITION COMMENCEMENT TIME: 5.30pm for 5.45pm start
Entries Close: 20th October 2008.
Prize Money 1st prize
Junior Section under 23 years old. $100
Intermediate Section over 23
years old under five years experience. $100
Open Section $150
Each competitor will receive a certificate of participation and the winners of each section will receive prize money and a trophy.

Schedule for the Competition
Item One Mask for masquerade ball - Junior, Intermediate and Open Sections
You are invited to design and create a mask for a lady to wear to a masquerade ball. The mask can be made from any product including non horticultural materials. E.g. wire, ceramic, paper mache, etc. The mask must be adorned with horticultural materials. The flowers/ foliages can be as flamboyant as you desire. The lady is wearing a purple velvet gown with a square neckline. The dress has an organza overlay on the skirt section of the gown. It is floor length. The finished design must be 75% horticultural material.
Please bring this design to the competition completed.
The item will be staged and then judged. You may stage this item from 5.00pm on the competition day.
This item is to be positioned in the display area before the commencement of the competition.
Item Two Foyer arrangement for the masquerade ball. -junior, intermediate and Open.
You are asked to create a foyer piece for the Masquerade ball. The arrangement is to be placed in the Foyer against a neutral colour wall. The colour scheme of the arrangement must reflect the theme of the evening. You may use accessories and embellishments. Your design should be contained in an area of 1metre in width by 1metre in depth and by 2metres high. The arrangement may be placed on a stand or pedestal. (this must be provided by the competitor.) This item is to be completed in the competition area within the specified time. It must be 50% horticultural materials
This item will not be moved for judging at the end of the time.
Completion Time: 45 minutes.
Competitors please note:
Item two is to be constructed in the competition area under supervision and within set time.
No preparation of horticultural materials is allowed before the competition.
All flowers, foliages props etc are the responsibility of the competitors.
All items must be suitably staged (displayed) for public viewing. Penalty will apply for breeching of any competition rules.
If a minimum standard of entry is not achieved a first prize may not necessarily be awarded

Just wondering, are students able to attend the event, if they are not competing? I would like to see all of the beautiful entries first hand!

The competition items will be able to be viewed from 8pm. There is also to guest demonstraotrs for the evening. Kellie Miller from Annflora Drouin and Casey Patten from Byrons for Flowers in East Doncaster. they are both up and coming florists.
Everyone is welcome to attend the demonstration and supper. Entry is $15.00 for non members, $10.00 for Members and $8.00 for students.
