Australian Florists & Allied Trade Association Inc was formed in 1976 by a group of florists and allied trades people who felt there was a need for an industry organisation to be available to assist florists with a range of information. The original objective was to establish formal training and qualification for florists. Having approached government authorities, etc, apprenticeship training was approved in December 1977 with the first apprentices commencing training in 1978. Having achieved their first goal, the committee and membership then went on to focus their energies in other directions and has gone on to assist florist both individually and collectively in many other ways. The committee is involved with many committees and organisations to assist both employers and employees and information from those various areas are available to members of the AFA.Members receive a quarterly newsletter.
