I am hoping someone can help me with an average cost for a florist shop fit . I am inquirying about a shop location and am not sure of a realistic cost for a shop fit out (excluding coolroom). I am aware that it does vary for the quality of fixtures that is used etc.... I am just wanting a ball park figure? :)

Hello Rach
Sorry, but your question is hard to answer, because every florist shop need different things/ Some use only 1 fridge, some large cool rooms. Even price for the working benches and shelves varies in hundreds.  Make a list of what you need (fridge/cool room, shelves, buckets, mirror, baskets, pots, toys, etc) and try to search/ask for prices in different categories.

Hi Val,

I guess I am wanting to know what other people in the industry have paid for their shop fitout. I am aware that size of the shop, fixtures, coolroom etc are all going to be different. I have been quoted from one $40,000 up to $120,000. :)

Rach I am in a rural area so I went with a really rustic look for my shop, I repainted it my self , and then went to the local demolition yard and picked up some really great items for less than a couple of hundred dollars.Things like old trelles legs then some old wide planks of wood that I spent a few hours sanding back and then varnishing. I then went to the local furniture store and bought stressed timber book shelves.  MY husband made my work benches out of some of the old timber and the tops in marine ply wood so it is water proof and then we used a lot of lovely old corrugated iron from the roof of a 100 hundred old shed off our farm, even the front counter is made of iron and polished timber . You don't have to spend a lot of money I even stacked some cardboard boxes togeather once to display the teddies in and it looked great. Just think outside the box and be creative afterall that is why we are florists.!!!! Hope that helps and good luck, keep it simple and as you can afford it you will add to what you need. Even the Salvos and shops like that have really funcky containers for something a bit different for displays.

I completely agree with Gattonflorist. I bought an existing shop but I hated the interior. I went to the tip and bought rusty corrugated iron whhich we used to cover the base of the counter the my husband used old wood to cover the counter top. I bought old wooden fruit boxes which I stack and put displays on. They were a bargain and I got them for $10 each. I always get asked about them but I won't sell them. Cash register you can get cheap 2nd hand. I painted behind my flower display with black chalkboard paint and I write specials or flower care tips or trivia on it (it's a good conversation starter while you are making their bq "oh, I didn't know you can't put fruit and flowers together, why's that?")
The old owner had these hideous 3 teir wooden display that I just painted up, but you can get things from 2nd hand shops that just need a little work.

I wouldn't spend $40000 and I definitely wouldn't spend 120,000. Be creative. It looks more individual too rather than just a sterile workshop.

Thanks for the great ideas :)
Are your shops in a large shopping centres?
That seems to be where I am having the trouble. I have do redo the whole shop front in top to bottom reinforced glass. They are very particular about everything including approval for shelving etc. I can' t even paint it myself I have to use a "qualified painter" as well as qualified shop fitters . They also have a say in what the shop has to look like.
Luckily,I know the centre I am looking at isn't as bad as a westfield.. they have alot more criteria! :)
