i was cleaning out the back room in the shop the other day and in the back corner was a pile of old wreaths, bats etc,
the foam in these has turned brown and looks really brittle
but they have not been previusly used,
i've never really used foam like this before,
will this still take up water and hold it properly???

I am pretty sure it won't be any good, are the wreaths in the plastic base or just cardboard backed? If cardboard I think definately too brittle, but if in the plastic you may be alright. I would just shave the top of them before soaking so most of the dust sitting in the surface holes is removed, use your judgement (or cut a line into it to check) once soaked as to whether it is all the way through. I think TJ would be the one to answer this one though, are you out there TJ?

Cheers,
Annette

Dear Alison,

Floral foam has a life span and through the summer months it is usually no more than three months. Once the foam browns it has "gone off". I would suggest you treat the older frames as dry foam. By that I mean that same comparison as polystyrene. If the flowers are to go onto a family member or old peoples home then don't use it but if it normal funeral use, use it dry after all florists used dry foam and previous to that moss and straw with no water source for decades.

Hope this helps.
