Sadly my car is about to give up and it's time to trade up to a new vehicle - I was wondering if there is a specific type of car, ute or van that many of us use and highly recommend?

Many of us I'm sure have a work van that is the work-horse of our operations - however, many commercial vans are just that - for commercial use!

Is there a vehicle out there that you've owned, used or currently own that you've found crosses the boundary between work and play, all while doing so in an efficient manner both environmentally and economically?

I'm considering vehicles along the lines of Subaru Wagons, Ford Falcon/Holden Commodore wagons or else Mazda Premacy, Holden Zafira or even a small SUV such as Mazda Tribute... I often do deliveries after work and require a stable vehicle that's reliable and good flexibility in the interior (my current small hatchback consistently has floral debris all over the back seat from morning's at the market!) ... the height of the bootspace is of particular interest!!!

Any suggestions or warnings of lemons is greatly appreciated!

We inherited a Holden Combo with our shop which is currently unregistered and needs a service BAD. We will have it up and going before Valentines. It is only a 2 seater so if you have kids probably not a good idea. The back has height and room though. At the moment we are using my Pajero which is fine because the boot is roomy but a few times I have needed the height and I'v ehad to climb up in it to get arrangements in there because the floor of the boot is high. I know the combo will be much better for that because it is lower to the ground.

If I had had a choice I think a van would have been my number one especially if it had a side sliding door. Maybe there is a van with removable back seats, I'm not sure. I'm not car minded.

Hi Alex,

We have a Diahatsu Terios, I find it fantastic for both work and play, seats 4, the back seats fold down flat to the floor, the back is square (no taper down at the rear) it can fit 6 long flower boxes, or 11 compactors in the back. I have almost always been able to fit any corporate/event/casket arrangements in the back (couldn't stand the 90cm Martini Vase arrangements up, but only had one so stood that up in the front with me). I was also looking at the Holden Cruze but I think from memory the seats didn't fold completely flat.

Cheers,
Annette

I used to have a holden commodore station wagon and there is so much room in the back especially if you fold down the seats!  We upgraded to a Prado and I really miss the room i had in the commodore because there is no where near enough in my car now.  If it is room and practicality then I strongly suggest a holden commodore station wagon!  You can get them pretty cheap too.  There are alot of them at the goverment auctions (not sure where you live) for cheap.

we have a toyota townace van & find it very good, fuel efficient & goes very well.
we take it to the markets & except @ mothers day etc. it is quite sufficient for us.
you can have a seat in the back which does fold up.
saying that my next choice would be a toyota hiace LWB.

We have a Hyundai iLoad.  It's fantastic, we did have a Ford Econovan and it was a loud and uncomfortable.  I have three kids so I need a back seat.  The iLoad is fantastic, the front of it feels and drives just like a car with a back seat for the kids, yet I still have the van area in the back. Unfortunately I did have an accident in my Ford and wrote it off, but it was a blessing in disguise as my iLoad is 50 times better!!
