Hi there,

I am considering doing a Floristry course at TAFE (Cert II) next year. I'm in my last year of uni, but I'm really questioning my career path and have always been interested in floristry, so I thought with a lighter course load next year, maybe this would be this time to give it a go.

I'd love to hear about other people's experiences with this or any other course. Did you enjoy it? Did you work in the industry (paid or unpaid) at the same time? What were your job prospects like afterwards? What is the course like - what sort of things do you do on campus, and is there a lot of "homework"?

Thanks so much for any feedback! :D

Hi Trjn,
Ive just recently completed a Cert 3 through TAFE while also doing a (paid) Traineeship through the company I still currently work for. I immensley enjoyed completing this Certificate at TAFE. Not only did I learn different techniques for doing many types of designs, I was able to learn with a group of people that were just as excited and keen to learn just as much asĀ  I did. It helped having other girls to brainstorm ideas for designs, as well as help when i needed it.
Yes, there was alot of 'homework', but in the long run...it has helped me quite alot!
The teachers were absolutely terrific.
Although I have worked for several Florist companies before going to TAFE and completeing a Certificate, I wanted to hold a qualification, and it was an amazing experience, that really does help, you learn so much! Most of the people I have worked with over the last few years, have not completed any Certificates, but none the less, produce amazing work, and know there stuff!!! Its all about experience, and how hard your willing to learn!
Good luck with everything!!!!! :)

I would speak with your local florists and ask them about training. Usually they will let you know what is best if your local College (Private) or Tafe (Public) is better. Generally the Private College are a little cheaper but you need to make sure they have the standard.

There is apprenticeship training in most states but the pay is not the best. However, this is the best way to study floristry. Being able to put your skills into practice every working day.

Good luck!!!
